All Up to the Skip.

Leave it to the Skip. He’ll fix it.

How often do we hear that, and today two skips had to do just that.

I was watching one of our Levin teams playing their first game in the KCBC Men’s Fours, played at Central Levin..

Jim Bentley’s team was playing a very strong team from Paraparaumu, skipped by Jim Martin.

Playing the last end, the Levin team was three points ahead and were holding shots. Up to the skip to deal with it. He drove with his first bowl and just missed, but his last bowl was on target and the end was killed and had to be replayed.

When the Skips went to play their bowls, Paraparaumu were holding two shots with only one Levin bowl keeping them out of more. Up stepped the skip and he drove the Levin bowl off. A great shot.

Jim (from Levin) had to draw close and that is what he did, leaving Paraparaumu still with two but needing 1 to draw or two for a win. A very good bowl, putting pressure on the other Skip.

What to do, drive off the closest Levin bowl or draw. He chose to draw but just missed, leaving the Levin team the winner.

Neville Turnbull and his team also had a good first round win so it was a good start to the tournament. Will be interesting to see what happens in the next two rounds.
