Esma Aiken (s) and Galyene Nicol won their Champion of Champion Pairs final today against our pair, Ann Malone (s) and Christine Ryan. Though our ladies trailed most of the game, they did stage a comeback towards the end, but their opposition, playing consistent draw bowls, ended the game with the score at 22-18. A really good game to watch with some great draw bowls.
Interesting to note in the men’s final, the Otaki pair, Gary Hogan and Ross McLean, won their game with the same score that they had when they won their semi-final against our team, Fred and Omeka, 22-18.
So it was one down, but over the weekend, Selwyn Riwaka was playing in the Beach fm 2010 Novice Singles at Kapiti so there was still a chance of a title coming to the club
Last night, I was unable to find out how Selwyn was doing but today around lunch time, I did hear that he had reached the final.
And in the mall at Paraparaumu this afternoon, I ran into a player from the coast who I knew, who had just come from the Kapiti green and he told me that Selwyn had won the final 23-16 against McTaggart from Naenae. A great effort, continuing on his great form over this, his first year at bowls..
A great day for the club overall.
