Season Draws to a Close

A really lovely afternoon today to end the summer roll-ups, just a pity that there were not a lot more players enjoying the conditions.

Those who did play made up two games of 2x4x2 and a triples.

It’s been interesting seeing some players trying out their skills with some of the old club bowls and it was evident how much more green those bowls took.

I found my original bowls and was surprised to see that two of them had split for some reason or another. They originally had been my mothers and now, finally, they have been tossed into the rubbish bin at the end of their career!

I well remember a skip telling me that I was taking too much green; those bowls certainly did take a big arc and it was great fun seeing them curve their way in. They were hopeless on an outside rink and a long end, there was just not enough room for them.

The photos below show a few of todays players enjoying their day, no matter what the score was.

Saturday sees the closing of the summer season and the presentation of trophies and bars to those who won events. I hope the day sees a good turn out of members and if the weather is OK, enjoy an afternoon’s play.

May and Gary keep an eye on Don as he checks out who has the shot/s. Marion also watches closely.

bowls3

Gary gets his bowl away smoothly, watched by Don.

How does it do?

bowls4

His bowl joins two of May’s bowl to give us 3 shots.

bowls2

Rex and Joe oppose each other. The score doesn’t look too good for one of them.

I wonder who??

bowls5

Omeka, about to add to the scoreboard.

Just two ends to score – will the bottom number reach 40??

I can tell you that the top number was the only one scoring.. at last!
