Originally it was to be three day tournament, then because of insufficient entries, it was reduced to 2 days, but it eventually turned out to be just a one day event.
At least it was a really nice morning on Saturday when we got started at 9.00 am, sixteen teams in four sections, playing 18 ends of three bowl pairs for each game.

Some of the players on Rinks 1 & 2, the sun still shining.
After the first game we paused for a short lunch break and then out again to play the next two games. With visiting teams joining our local players, it made for interesting and challenging games; a team from Whitby, two from clubs in Palmerston North, one from Shannon which included a young girl who showed promise with her bowls and even a player from Christchurch who had made sure he was in town to play in the tournament.
By late afternoon, the sky was showing indications of a change in the weather and waking this morning to the sound of rain meant it was not really a surprise when a phone call came to say that no play was possible.
I understand that prizes will be sent out to those who are to receive one; just a pity that our sponsors, Kens Keys, who had also donated a cup to present to the overall winners, was not able to be present at a prize giving ceremony. One of the problems of playing such a tournament in winter I suppose.
I do not have all the results of the first day’s play available but the teams that were to play in the second days’ top section were:
K Hayward (s) and M Mackay: 3 wins and 49 points
N Gordon (s) from the Northern Club and N Rogers, Palmerston North Club: 3 wins and 46 points
B Cooper(s) and L Galloway: 3 wins and 26 points
I Wenham (s) and S Boxall: 3 wins and 25 points
Quite a difference in points won by the teams – looks to me that some had it easier than others …. but that just might be because I am biased!!

Susan Boxall sending up a good bowl for me.

So how did this player get her bowl out to the side…
Perhaps it is just an illusion.

Is Liz rally going to stamp on the bowls
just because her team is 2 points down??
