Men’s Championship Fours

Overnight and morning rain put off the start of the matches until Noon today. The cotula green was still flooded so games were held on the Dales Green.

Six teams were entered and because of the late start, games were reduced to 15 ends with the hope that three rounds could be played. By the end of the second round, it was obvious that it would be far to late to get the third game completed.

After the two rounds, the Teams skipped by T Tuatara and N Turnbull had won both their games, still with one life were F Adams and I Wenham’s teams, and losing both their games were B Furness and J Wnek.

Tomorrow morning’s games will start at 8.30am with N Turnbull v F Adams and T Tuatara v I Wenham

My game against Neville had its moments but as the game moved on, we were slowly drifting back. Came the second-to-last end and we were five points behind but Brian Thompson, Jack Willis and Paul Gardner all played well and after the last bowls had been played, we had managed to retain 5 shots to enter the last end with the scores level.

Neville, who was having a very accurate day with his drives, killed the next and final end, the bowls were returned to the same starting end and once again we soon had the shot bowl, played by Paul. Neville tried to draw a closer shot but without success and decided to drive with his last. Down it came, again accurate, taking out our shot. My final bowl failed to regain the shot. Shoota, Keith West and Dave Walker all had played their part but Neville, especially with his drives when needed, has made it necessary for us to win our morning game to qualify.  Time will tell.
