Business House Season Ends

Another great series of business House Bowls was completed last night bringing to an end another very successful programme.

This was labelled as a ‘fun’ night (surely all the other nights had been the same!)with the emphasis in showing how skilful players had become with their handling of their bowls.

Their ability to draw accurately was tested, with individuals having to draw their bowls into a circular target that had been drawn on the bowling carpet. Difficult for many club bowlers, it was great to see the non bowlers achieving this.

Kevin and Nikki, the winners of this challenge.

The other popular challenge was getting their bowl between two bowls at the other end of the green. A miss put the individual out of the competition. Those successful, then found they had to do the same thing but the gap between the bowls was narrowed.

Jill was the most accurate lady and Phil took out the men’s competition.

Phil and Jill succeeded.

The club put on a free meal and our thanks go to all who in one way or another helped make this possible; supplying food, preparing, cooking serving and at the end of the evening, cleaning up, all vital jobs. From all the comments I heard, the meal was greatly appreciated.

Over the weeks, teams had been playing for fun but there was also the opportunity to show that they were the winning team in their division. Convenor Brian, spoke about the background of the event and then called forward the Division 2 winning team members who were presented with the New World Shield and a Certificate by Matthew Rollinson.

Winners of Division 1 were then called forward and were presented with their trophy by Jeanette from Cobb & Co. This was a popular result going on the loud cheers and applause they received.

Rikki, the team skip, spoke about how much they had enjoyed Business House, not only the competitive games but also the friendliness shown by all players, and they would certainly be back again next year.

The raffle this time differed in that all the prizes had been donated by the teams (somehow there were even more than the number entered) and this time all players had to accept that it was only luck that would win them a prize, not like their bowls, where as well as a bit of luck, skill was also a very useful item.

So a most successful season had come to an end.

Thanks to all who took part and to those who helped run the event. See you next year.
