It was once known as Closing Day simply because it was the end of the season, but having an artificial green as well as the cotula, we can play (weather permitting) all year round.
Early morning rain was on show but by 1.00pm the Dale green was clear of water and we got started in a roll-up. Play was to go to about 3.00pm and then prize giving and afternoon tea would follow.
That was the plan but after two ends, we all noted the large black cloud that was moving in from the north. A few drops of rain quickly changed to LARGE drops and all players quickly headed for shelter, an in no time at all, the green looked like a lake.
Prize giving was now the centre of our attention and President Ken gave us a brief outline of the past season which, in his words, must rank as one of the most successful that the club had had for years,
Winners of the various Club events then received their badge and trophy in recognition of their skill (and sometimes, luck) on the green.
The Kapiti Centre’s Immediate Past President, Carrell Knight, thanked the club for its efforts throughout the season and then presented badges and certificates to Centre winners.
She also noted how well our new artificial green looked, as by the end of her presentations, she saw that all the water had drained from the surface and it was looking just fine again.
So, summer apparently has gone and what could be called our ‘winter season’ has arrived … In practical form, this coming Wednesday will see the start of a new open gala programme to be played each Wednesday commencing at Noon. Entries look good and we hope it turns out a popular event for all participants.
