Sunday 2x4x2 Gala

9.30 am Start

Yes, this is how it looked across the green this morning at the start of our Sunday 2x4x2 Gala. A heavy dew (close to being a frost) covered the green and it quickly showed  where we had walked and the line our bowls had taken.  The sun soon got rid of the moisture but was never throughout the day, strong enough to warm ones blood. Certainly a day to be well wrapped up. Quite strange really with the sky to the west showing some cloud but to the east, the Tararua’s were covered, often with rain clouds but at other times, certainly snow was falling.  At the end of the afternoon, some of the ranges could be seen with a coating of snow.

Bowls, yes, we did play, 14 teams taking part in the 2x4x2, each game consisting of eight ends. Not the easiest of days to play with quite a strong wind blowing making the line quite wide at times.

A nice afternoon tea set up by Marion, was appreciated at the end of play and then Margaret announced the results as follows:

1st   Susan Boxall and Ian Wenham – 4 wins, 45 points and 19 ends

2nd  Margaret Griffin and Michael Norris – 4 wins, 34 points and 18 ends

3rd   Margaret MacKay and Omeka Feaunati – 3½ wins – 47 points and 18 ends.

(When teams have the same number of wins, the number of ends won becomes the deciding factor.)
