Women’s Veterans and Men’s Super9’s

Our club today hosted the Women’s Veterans and 42 players took advantage of the chance of playing on a sunny day at our club. As well, this was a progressive gala which has team players changed after each game. a great way to meet players from other clubs. Margaret, our Match Committee Convenor, told me that it was a  most enjoyable day.

Our 9’s Team for the Takaro Super 9’s tournament, today  played the third round of this tournament, the morning games against the Hokowhitu Club and the afternoon games against Takaro.

Our pairs, Fred and Omeka, lost both their games, the Triples, Neville, Barry and Rob, lost their morning game but had a big win in the afternoon. The Fours, Ian, Paul, Stafford and Keith won both their games, playing on a very fast and true green which appears to be made mostly of star weed.

It was interesting watching how the various makes of bowls perform. A large number were coloured and fairly new, taking a much narrower line that the older bowl. A good example was Paul’s Master’s Deluxe which he used very well indeed. He was taking a very wide green and the bowls were able to round a bowl or group and draw the shot.  This he did often – he had a really great day.

Another Round will be played next Monday.
