A Busy Week

Our club has been the centre of a lot of activity this week with the Evergreen Softball Bowling Tournament taking place on our greens.

Monday afternoon was the first get-together, a chance for old friends and new players to meet and also practice their bowling skills on our artificial green.

Thirty-one were present and of them, 24 were involved with the bowling; they came from as far north as Auckland and down to Wellington and as well, five came from Australia. Our club member, Bryan Furness, has been the organiser of this tournament for a number of years, and was helped over the tournament by many of our club members;  our helpers have prepared and served the evening meals and have assisted with the social evenings.

Pairs were played on Tuesday, and perhaps because of his knowledge of the green, club member  ‘Bongo’ Short and his partner won the event.

Today saw Triples being played and again, one of our club members, Don Hutchins, was in the winning team.

It certainly seemed that all visitors had enjoyed their stay in our town and at our Club.

Playing today at the Waitarere Club were Ian, Paul, Ken and Omeka, trying to retain the Horowehnua Cup which the club had won last year. Two wins in the morning and one in the afternoon put us in second place to the Otaki team, who took the Cup, winning all their four games.

The green was in great condition and was running very fast, and required a lot of skill to produce good bowls.

Thanks Waitarere for hosting the annual competition.
