Yesterday saw our two club champion fours teams – Dianne, Hazel, Joan and Hildi (Coral not able to play), and Fred, Rex, Joe and Omeka play at Raumati South with the aim of becoming the Champion of Champions.
Fred again ended his first round game with the scores so close. Recently in the Pairs, with the score at 20 all, his opponents got the winning shot and put the team out. This time in the fours, the team had a lead of three shots going into the last end but the opposing skip with his last bowl moved the jack and Fred’s team were four shots down! And so the game ended. Just another frustrating game for Fred and his players.
Our women’s team had two good wins on Saturday winning their first game 23-12 and the second, 18-8, so this morning they had to face the Paraparaumu team. Hazel told me that though they were playing well, things just didn’t come off and they went down 20-10.
The final was held and resulted in the men’s title going to the Raumati South team which won its game against Otaki, and the Paraparaumu Beach women’s team won their game against the Waikanae team in a very close final, 21-20.
Our club did well and will next year again do its best to win titles in the Champion of Champion events.
