Two greens had to be used today, not because of the number of games to be played, simply because rain had caused some flooding on the cotula green.
Late yesterday saw the first round of Post-section played and Hazel proved to be in top form in that game. This morning started off in poor weather but the round was completed with some very close games.:
Ken 21-Rob 14, Joan 21-Omeka 13, Neville 21 – Dianne 15, Fred 21- Hazel 20 .
As can be seen, some close games here, especially Fred coming through.
Ken about to deliver his bowl
The semi-final saw Ken reaching 21 ahead of Joan who was on 16, and Fred again having a close game. With the score in his favour at 20-16, Fred put his next three bowls in the ditch before playing the winning bowl, quite necessary as Neville would have had 4 points and drawn the game at 20 all. Again Fred withstood the pressure.
Fred delivering his bowl.
So to the final and this proved a highly entertaining game for the good crowd watching from the clubroom while the two players had to be well wrapped up against the cold and steady breeze playing on the Dale green.
The scoring was fairly close for much of the game and after 17 ends, Ken was leading 17-12 but then Fred came back to level at 17 all. Real pressure now, two points to Ken, 19-17, Fred with another single, 19-18. Keep calm boys!
The bowls had been played, Fred had two obvious shots but a measure was needed to find whose bowl was next closest. It was measured, measured again, and then it was a handshake that told us Fred had got three shots and the win. Thanks players for the game and congratulations to you both for the skilful bowls played.
