Twelve Men’s and twelve Women Pairs were playing today at the Paraparaumu Beach Club with the aim of winning the Champion of Champion Pairs.
Our Women’s team, Margaret MacKay and Christine Ryan, as sometimes happens, travelled from Levin to face anther local team, the pair from Central Levin. This game resulted in our women missing out, the score at 16-25..
Barry Cross and Neville Turnbull were able to take their time getting to the Paraparaumu Green for the Men’s games, having drawn a first round bye. The 2nd round saw them playing the Paekakariki pair and our team won the game 21-17.
The semi final game now took place with Neville and Barry playing another team from our town, Central Levin. One presumes it was a close game which resulted in the Central pair winning, 23-21. They will be facing the Paraparaumu Club’s pair tomorrow, the game starting at 10.am Good bowls.
Yesterday saw the final day of the Horowhenua Fives; not the usual set-up for this competition but a chance for players to enjoy bowling before the winning club received the competition Trophy.
Each club sent two teams of Fours to play 2 one hour ten minute games. A further challenge took place in the second game – the Skip and Lead changed positions and the two and three did likewise. Fun and a challenge game. Results weren’t important and once afternoon tea was served, the announcement was made of the winners of the Horowhenua Fives – Levin RSA. Another popular competition that took place throughout the season.
