2x4x2 Plus …….

A stand out day in so many ways! Keen 2x4x2 Pairs teams in action and at the end of play, three of them had won all of their games.
Perhaps the dominating feature of the day was the strong westerly wind which made it a real challenge for so many. Certainly some players showed confidence with their delivery and accuracy whereas others found it a real struggle most of the day.
After play we had time to enjoy afternoon tea and our President, Hazel, showed us that she has real skills in cooking scones. Real tasty.
Back to play, Shoota met us in the last game and he had by then, three wins. Ken and I had had mixed fortunes but though ‘giving’ Ken and Bill the win, we reduced his overall ends won won to 34, one less than John Randle (Waikanae) who had 35.
The top position went to Dianne and Omeka who also won their four games but had 47 point to show the result of their skills. A big total but perhaps I can outline why.
It happened that Ken and I met the pair in the day’s first game and it seemed to me that they had perfect weather each time they delivered a bowl, in contrast to our attempts to get our bowls close to the Jack.
In reality, our opposition really did play wonderful bowls, consistently drawing to the head, whereas ours never seemed to get close… That is until the last end when it looked as though we had close bowls, and the shot, to take the end. But no, In came Dianne’s last bowl and once again, she drew her bowl right beside the Jack for the shot…which really was a pity for us as we thought that at last we were going to score in the game. Alas, the board at the end of play read 21 – 0
As you can guess, that pair won all games today and took out the top prize.
Days Results:
1st Dianne Short and Omeka – 4 wins, 25 ends, 47 points.
2nd John Randle and Gaylene Nicole – 4 wins, 20 ends 35 points
3rd Shoota and Bill Clelland – 4 wins, 20 ends, 34 points.

PS We actually did win one game, doing so on the last end of one game just to make our opponent in that game despair.

The club thanks all who helped run the day for the club in so many ways and to all who braved the challenge of the weather and played their games.
