Hi Members
Our Women’s Super 7’s team made an incredible comeback today to win their competition – the premier competition for women in the Centre.
After the first day of competition the team was in sixth, and last, place six points behind the leaders Waikanae. Today, however, as a result of winning 5 of their 6 games in the first two rounds they were told that they had moved into second place behind Kapiti. According to an ecstatic player-selector Hazel Rose the final result hinged on the singles game between Dianne Short and her opponent. At 24-all it was in the balance but Dianne came through to get the last shot and win the match 25-24, and the team had won 8 of their 9 matches today.
A great result for our club as this was the first time for some years that our club had entered the super 7’s grade though they did win the Reserve 7’s last season. Now they will go on to the regional playoffs at Whanganui on 28 February.
Congratulations to all of the players who played in the Super 7’s this season.
