Following on from their Grass Roots win, John Adam’s team wins the Waikanae Winter Cup. They played 8 games in two days, winning 7 out of the eight. The turning point in the final was midway through the game when John drove off Island Bay’s team’s closest bowl then draw a third shot. This allowed them to skip out to a 8 -4 lead which turned out to be the winning of the game. In the last end Island Bay needed four for a draw and had three with one bowl to come but John draw a honey to close out the game leaving them no opportunity to get a four. I watched the game and it’s pleasing to report that all four players played exceptionally well, especially Stacey Thomas a first season bowler who will give any junior a run for their money in the coming season.
But a lot of the credit for this great performance must go to John for his leadership, driving and drawing. Well done guys and it’s all positive for the club championships this new season. The overall skill level at the club is much higher, probably due to the many Aero bowls our players have, our artificial green for winter play and our new coaching team lead by Kerry Greetson.
