The biennial visit of the Heretaunga Bowling Club from Hastings took place on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 November. On the Thursday afternoon the 16 Heretaunga players joined 40 plus Levin members for a mixed progressive triples roll up followed by socialising and an evening meal at the Cobb & Co.
The serious stuff took place on the Friday morning when the two clubs played off in 2 x 4 x 2 mixed pairs, a triples and a women’s four for the Challenge trophy. Before the event Jim Bentley pointed out the cobwebs clinging to the trophy to me. According to Jim that was because the trophy had been in his garage for so many years. As it turned out on the day, after a a very close contest with three wins to each club, due to some dodgy countback system the trophy will spend another year in Jim’s garage. So there’s another challenge for the club to meet in Hastings in 2016.
