It was a cool wintry kind of day for the summer opening on Saturday 3 September. Forty plus hardy bowlers arrived at the club clad in summer whites to launch the new season. After a welcome by President Trevor and the presentation of two winter championship trophies it was out to the Dales carpet green to set the wheels in motion.
The honour of sending down the first jack fell to our youngest member Sammy Sweeney after which Noel Larsen our longest serving playing member send down the first bowl. The strong wind blowing straight up and down the green meant that the members decided to shorten the playing time and repair to the warmth of the clubrooms, a sumptuous afternoon tea and a few beverages.
Next week the first summer championship event the Balloted 2 x 4 x 2 Pairs for both men and and women is scheduled. with the size of the fields entered green superintendent Arne and his helpers will be praying for some fine weather as we will certainly need two greens.
