Mate vs Mate

In the Mixed Novice Singles at Levin Bowls yesterday the bowling standard was exceptional good with two games going to the wire.  In the round robin Phil Stirrat took sometime to settle in.  Behind 3-20 against Doug Harris he started to draw a lot better and won the next seven ends before Doug finally got the last shot he needed to win 21-10.  Stirrat then played Brian Srurzaker and this game was fantastic with both players playing magic draw bowls.  At 18 all it was anyone’s game but the ever constant Srurzaker got a four to go out, winning 21-18.  The next games was a winner takes all, with mates Harris and Srurzaker playing each other.  Again another tight match with Srurzaker most of the time slightly in front but Harris always pegging him back to be all square.  Again at 18 all Srurzaker won the next three ends with great draw bowls to win 21-18.

The club congratulated all three players who showed they have the talent to be very competitive at the Kapiti Centre Novices Singles due to be played on the 25th & 26th March.  The club hopes they all enter.
