Women’s Singles Final

At last, a summers day, all set for the semi-finals and final of the Open Women’s Singles.

Liz Galloway and Dianne Short were drawn to play and the other match saw Margaret MacKay playing Margaret Griffin.

Liz did well, winning her game 21 – 12 but the other game between the two Margarets was closer, the score 21-18 to Margaret MacKay.

I wasn’t able to see the final, but I asked Ken Hayward to let me know the result and also to take a photo, which I have attached.

Ken reported:

In the final Liz went to an early lead at 6-3 but Margaret squared up at 6-6 and went on to lead 10-6.and later 16-9

Liz came back to 12-16 but Marg went to 19-12 before Liz fought back to 15-19 down. Marg then took two singles on the last to ends to run out the winner 21-15.

Both players drew very well and there many closely contested ends. In the end Marg was able to put more shots closer to the jack than Liz on a more consistent basis and that really proved the difference.
