A Great Finish

Final Night of Business House Bowls was held tonight and what a great evening it proved to be.

A bit of fun to start, with a try at Corner to Corner. Targets had been set up in two corners of the green and several achieved success in getting their bowl right on the spot.

Following this, all took part in the accuracy test, getting a bowl delivered from one side of the green to the other but having it to get between two bowls. After each round, those who had succeeded found the gap between the two bowls had diminished but finally a winner was found, Riki in the men’s side and Becky (Fred’s daughter) for the women.

All were, I’m sure, impressed with the meal the club turned on, free, for all, and special thanks to those who assisted in one way or another in its preparation and presentation. Great effort.

Before prize giving, Brian Cooper, the event organiser, addressed all who had taken part over recent weeks. A summary of what he said follows:

Welcome to the presentation night of the Cobb & Co Business House Triples Tournament and to all of you who took part and especially the good sports who got my special ‘Brian’s  Prize’s over the last 9 weeks.

The Levin Bowling club thanks you all very much for making our bank balance very healthy.

Now to our Sponsors.  Unfortunately Cinema 3 are no longer with us, but over the last couple of years, they supported us very well so I wish Chris, ‘all the best’.

Levin New World, Barry and his team continue to support  our club very generously and we thank you very much. And so to our main sponsor, the Levin Cobb & Co Restaurant and Bar. Janice & Nathan Hesp have come to the party for many years and I am sure you  all would like to show them our appreciation.

This tournament  is still extremely popular and the magic formula is you all taking part, having fun in a relaxed atmosphere and meeting a lot of people over the 10 weeks where friendships are made. If you want to play next year, make sure you leave us your contact name and phone number.

The LBC Executive Committee invite all who played in the Business House evenings, to join us with free membership to the end of our present season (31 August 2010), taking part in our Roll Ups, our occasional Friday Night meal and making use of our facilities. You will be mixed in with our members and in this way, will learn some more about bowls. A special welcome to you all to next Thursday evenings ‘Birthday” Social, a gold coin donation is all that is required.

Lastly, special thanks to all our dedicated volunteers, about 25 people, who have helped me in some way to run this event; the ground staff who ensure the greens are ready for play, our bowls man who has the sets out ready and at the end of the evening, puts them all away, the cleaning staff (because you do make a mess), the kitchen staff who feed us, the bar staff, always over worked, the camera/internet man, the raffle staff, the scorer, and others who in any way, made the evenings successful.

To you all, again, thanks for taking part, and I look forward to seeing you all next year.

In reply, Linda from Team Ah Dunno, thanked Brian and the Club for putting on another year of Business House Bowls with all who took part, thoroughly enjoying the event.

Prize giving then followed , results as follows:

Finally the drawing of the raffle took place; all prizes given by the teams who had taken part, some donating more that one.  Really appreciated by the club.

So it’s all over for another year, highly successful from the clubs point of view and also from those who took part, going on the comments we heard.

And suddenly, it will be next season, time to start organising  for the event again.

Well done, all who did their bit to help make it another successful club event.
