Close Finish

Three sections with 4 teams in each, played today to complete Day 2 of the Oxford Finance Mixed Triples Gala.

The weather was good and the play very close. Three rounds were played and it turned out that no team won all their games today in any section.

With a very high standard being played in most games, there was a lot of interest, especially in the last round, to see which two teams would take out the prizes allocated to each section.

Afternoon tea taken at the completion of the third game and then, Linda Cliff from Oxford Finance, presented the prizes as follows:

Section 1

Winning Team: Margaret Griffin (s), Gary Wylie, Ian Upston with 2 wins and 12 ends

Runners Up : Rob Cotter (s), Murray Griffin, Margaret MacKay with 1½ wins and 11 ends.

These two teams played each other in the last game and the win to Margaret gave them the top prize. It would be a special thrill for Ian who is playing in his first bowling season.

Section 2

Winning Team: Dianne Short (s), Paul Gardner, Rex Spicer with 2 wins and 14 ends

Runners Up: May Thompson (s), Jack Willis, Gwen McLauchlan with 2 wins and 12 ends.

Section 3

Winning Team: Joe Wnek(s), Lodzia Wnek, Margaret Lowndes with 2 wins and 14 ends.

Runners Up: Barbara Fellows, Rhona Cutler, Trevor Fellows with 2 wins and 12 ends.

Prize for Top qualifying Team Day1 was won by Rob Cotter’s team.

It has been a very good tournament, with two visiting teams from Palmerston North and some players from other Levin Clubs making the competition overall very strong. It was a little disappointing that only 12 teams entered but I’m sure that those who took part will let other bowlers know what a great tournament has been held and is something to look forward to next year.

Special thanks to Oxford Finance for their sponsorship, really appreciated by the club.
