How things change! The weather on Thursday was terrible with heavy rain flooding the green, but today, the sun was out and the green was all ready for play in today’s Men’s Handicap Singles.
The last 2 games played were the final chance for Ken Hayward and Brian Cooper to qualify if they won their respective games – Ken had to beat Neville Turnbull and Brian, Fred Adams.
Though he wasn’t able to qualify, Neville came to light and won his game against Ken, with the score 21-12.
It looked as though Brian would have no problems winning his game with the score at 20-13 but Fred’s game improved and with the score reading 20 all, it looked as though Brian’s chance of qualifying had gone. The end started with Fred quickly holding the shot but Brian finally played the ‘winning’ shot to take the end and qualify. I’m sure there must have been a big sigh of relief from him.
The end of the day saw 9 qualifiers and the draw for tomorrow sees Paul Gardner playing Stafford Ball in the first round and the winner of that game will play Brian Cooper. The others who will play after their bye are Murray Griffin v RexSpicer, Shoota Ballinger v’s Keith Galloway, and Rob Cotter v’s Dave Walker,
A good day is forecast so we look forward to seeing some good bowls through the day.
