Tony’s Gala

Twenty Two teams, nine from other clubs, took part in today’s Greenkeeper’s Gala, an event our greenkeeper,Tony, has sponsored over the last few years.

Both greens were put to use to play the four rounds and some close matches were witnessed during the day.

My team played Margaret Griffin (s), Bill Clelland and Ian Upston in our first game and it proved to be a real eye-opener. It was one of those games that we all wish to play; unfortunately for us, Margaret played just out of this world. I think she could have closed her eyes and things would have still gone her way. Outstanding play, and with her two players who also had a good game, we were lucky to win two ends. I’m not sure that Margaret maintained the great standard but it was and example that, on the day, we can all play ‘top bowls’.

Only one team went through the day winning all their games so the trophy (made by Tony) went to Neville (s) and Sharon Turnbull and Barry Cross.  Congratulation to them – their results show how well they must have played.

As well as the bowls, Tony supplied us with lunch, and after the games, he put on an evening meal, prepared with help from club members and wives.  We owe him and all who assisted in making the day such as special event, our sincere thanks.
