Thursday, January 13, 2011 Business House Bowls First Night
We couldn’t have wished for better weather to start this years Business House Bowls. Entries had been received very early and both greens will be filled with 32 teams of non-bowlers.
Our organiser, Brian Cooper welcomed all the players and outlined briefly how the evenings will be run and then it was ‘action’ as the teams went to the green and rink that had been allocated to them. (Of course before that could happen, Francis had put out all the sets of bowls available for the players and David Lowndes had again prepared the draw and had the cards ready for the teams.)
This first evening’s two games were the usual 6 ends each, but the results will not count towards the competition until it begins in earnest next week.
It was obvious that all were enjoying themselves during the evening, lots of laughter, lots of smiles, all indication of how players were enjoying themselves.
As well as bowls, the players were able to partake of a light meal between the two games and at the end of play were ready to receive their raffle prize if they had been lucky.
A great start to our annual event, and we are all looking forward to the evenings to come.
I must mention also how great it is to see club members helping in running the event in so many ways, giving their time and energy to our club.
