Neither Deserved to Lose

There were 12 entries for today’s Women’s Singles and after the early rounds, six players had qualified.  A draw was made and Alice Spicer and Dianne Short received the 2 byes and that meant Margaret MacKay had to play Coral Mills and Lodzia Wnek had to play Ra Walker.

Coral Mills

Margaret MacKay

These two players had a good game but Margaret generally played more consistently.

Mind you, she did on a couple of times, wait until playing her last bowl to save the end.

Rex Spicer marked the game and with Murray Griffin marking the other being played at the same time, the club is lucky to have members prepared to give their time in this way.

The other post section game was between Lodzia and Ra and this turned out to be a great game to watch.

I had heard that Lodzia had played well in her earlier games and I was glad that I was able to see her in this game. Earlier in the day I had marked Ra in a couple of her games and saw how skilled she is.

Throughout this psot-section game, these two women played outstanding bowls; one would hold the shot, the other would play their bowl and get it backt, often when it looked impossible to do.   There was never a large difference between their scores on the board…  and then it read Lodzia 18 and Ra 20.

Lodzia played her four bowls and was holding 3 shots. Ra tried to cut it down but her last bowl just missed out. Lodzia was the winner, but as the marker was heard to say,”Neither Deserved to Lose.”

It certainly was one of the best games I have seen for some time.

Congratulation to you both.

Ra Walker

Lodzia Wnek.
