Winning Brought A Smile

After a sunny afternoon playing in a roll-up, I again took part in the Business House Bowls evening.

It is great seeing all the non members arriving and getting themselves ready for the evening’s two games; getting their bowls ready, making sure all their team has arrived, finding out which green and what rinks they are to play on and meeting up with friends, old and new. It is a real hive of activity from around 5.30pm.

The weather last night was not great, generally fine but the sky was dark quite early, not enough to prevent play, but the lights on green one were turned on and added to the overall scene of a busy place.

Dot, my wife, has two friends playing with her this year, both new to the game but who are enjoying all aspect of the game and competition. Last night was their big moment, they won both their games, in fact, their first wins. Not a vital thing to them, playing and enjoying the whole thing is what it is all about, but achieving that little extra brought warm smiles to their faces.  I smiled too.

Also seen at the club yesterday was a new trolley for moving scoreboards, mats etc to where they are required. Greenkeeper Tony Jones made it and it will be a valuable tool around the place. Thanks TJ.

Stafford was nearby when I went to take the photo so he was used as the ‘model’ to show the machine being used.
