A ‘Wick’ Made a Difference

Last end and the scores were level. Joe and Lodzia held the winning shot and my last bowl was crucial.

On its way it went but I quickly released that it was too narrow, so I turned and walked to the bank.

Then I heard something that made me turn and look back up the green. There was my partner, Susan, indicating that we had one shot – and the win. How did that happen? My narrow bowl had glanced off a short bowl which straightened it enough to guide it on its way to rest beside the Jack. Obviously, just another way to get the winning shot  (embarrassing and frustrating perhaps.)

Play yesterday was in the Mixed 2x4x2 Gala and it was disappointing that only10 teams (20 players) were involved, seven teams from our club and one each from Central, Waitarere Beach and Kapiti. We were pleased to welcome the visitors but the question has been raised as to why we are not getting more support for our winter galas.  The new Dales Green is playing very well and doesn’t appear to be a problem.  Some have suggested that limiting the galas to mixed teams may be the problem but not all agree with that.  What do you think?  Let the Match Committee know your thoughts, have a chat about it with our fellow members and see if a solution can be found.

The weather was ideal for play yesterday and all enjoyed the challenge of the four rounds played. The winning pair maintained a very high standard and were the only winners of all their games. Congratulations Ra and Dave Walker. Coming in second was the Wnek team, Lodzia and Joe with 3 wins, 21 ends and 48 points. Perhaps my glancing bowl took first place from them.

I went down to the green this afternoon and noted Indoor Bowls has started again and Mah Jong and Bolivia are still being played – lots to do around the club,  both indoor as well as on the artificial green.  Visitors are welcome as well as our club members.
