Sixteen club members showed real dedication to our game by turning up to play this afternoon in the Mixed Pairs 2x4x2 roll-up. Why dedicated? Surely one just had to be to go out and play bowls in such terrible weather. The background – the Tararuas, were again hidden by a very black sky but the wind coming so strongly from the west, really made it very unpleasant, let alone to be consistently accurate with ones bowls.
Came afternoon tea, our ‘game’ decided that we had just had enough; we play the game to enjoy the sport … the three other games were hardier and played on. At least one club member was wise enough to view the games from inside, good thinking Colin.
This morning we had a college class over for another session of bowls. They weren’t worried about the wind and it was really pleasing to see them taking to the game. Lots of laughs and smiles, but above all, really trying to learn the game.
