The first competitive event for the summer season was held today. It was hoped that the cotula green would be used, but overnight rain left large areas of the green flooded so luckily we were able to use the artificial green.
Play started at 12.15pm with separate men’s and women’s competitions with three games of 8 ends of 2×4×2 to be played.
The draw as usual was made last Thursday after 4.00pm and on paper it looked as though any of the combinations could end up as winners.
Entering the last round there were only two teams in the men’s section with two wins, Paul Gardner – Barnaby Hamid and Rob Cotter – Selwyn Riwaka.
The latter combination went on and ended up as the only three winner so we congratulate Rob and Selwyn for winning the event. This will be a good memory for Selwyn, winning his first club title in his first year.

Men's Balloted 2x4x2 Winners
In the women’s section there were also two teams with a chance of winning, Margaret MacKay – Christine Ryan and Alice Spicer – Margaret Lowndes, with the former team winning their third game. Well done Margaret and Christine.

Women's Balloted 2x4x2 Winners
It was a good start for the season with some very close games throughout the day and this must be a good sign for coming competitions.
