This round of Rotary was played at Central and Shannon.
Fred Adams, playing at Shannon with Neville Winiata and new club member, Stafford Ball, won both games but our other team skipped by Joe Wnek, gained 1 win.
At Central, Bob Kitto’s team didn’t fare too well, recording two losses and my team managed to win only our first game.
Our 2nd game, played against Waitarere, was one of those games where nothing seemed to go right. Leading for me was Jim Wishart and it seemed that every time he got shots near the Jack, we would finally ended up going down on that end.
Came the last end and we needed 5 for a draw and we had that until the opposing skip killed the it. (In Rotary you are allowed one kill but a second kill losses the offending team 2 points.)
On the replay, we were holding 6, but this time he not only managed to hit the head with his drive, his bowl remained there ….. and that was us, down the drain!
Rotary has been played for many years and was played by men only as Fours. Not that many years ago, the format was changed to Triples because some clubs were finding it difficult to get enough players – 4 teams each time Rotary is held.
Now, in theory, it is still a men’s competition but some clubs are having to use women to fill their teams, such is the drop in playing numbers in some clubs.
How times change.
