A 9.00am start for Eileen and Martin to play Rex and Alice in the first game in the Mixed Pairs Post Section.

A one on the first end to Eileen was not added to until the 10th end by which time Alice and Rex had reached fourteen, and this lead they kept winning the game 20-10.

Those with a bye started their games around 11.00am, Ian and Susan winning their game against Brian and May 24-13, Fred and Coral who trailed Stafford and Marion throughout their game, going down 16-23, Omeka and Liz Gardiner playing Ken and Margaret got well ahead and won their game 25-13, and Noel and Dianne  had a comfortable win against Rex and Alice 21-9.

A short break after these games and then it was into the semi-final, Omeka and Liz playing Dianne Short and Noel McCutcheon.  From the sounds coming from those watching, this was an exciting match with great bowls being played by both teams. It was 17 all on the 17the end but the game was won finally won by Omeka and Liz on the 21st end.

Susan Boxall and I played Marion and Stafford Ball in the other match and by the 12th end, we were down 8-19 . Marion was leading extremely well with Stafford adding his support, while Susan and I struggled to find our line and weight, especially on the wide hand.  A three on the 13th end saw the start of a comeback and by the 17the end we were only 1 behind, the score at 18-19.   We only scored one more point while our opponents scored four, so we reached the last end with us needing 5 to win.  A long end was delivered and Susan did her bit with three bowls close enough to score. Luckily, I was able to add a further 2  bowls and we ended up winning, 24 – 23.  I’m sure, very few of those watching, gave us a chance of winning the game, us included, but it just shows that a game is only finished after the last bowl has been delivered. A close game played in a good spirit.

As yet, no date has been set for the final to be played.
