Visitors Welcome

Six outside teams played with our club members in today’s 2x4x2 gala, and they took out the three prizes.

The day started with mist not too far away as can be seen in the two photos, one looking down Weraroa Road and the other towards the coast. Note in the second photo that the cotula green has puddles of water still on it after last nights rain.

So it was a cool start for the gala but pleasing all the same that we had a full green. Mind you, the way we played, it looked as though it might have been better if we had stayed at home.  Omeka was in fine form and Dianne Short was also adding to our misery. All I seemed able to do was to knock another of their bowls closer to the Jack. We were lucky to score on two ends to their six.

Susan and I improved in the next game, just a little, winning three ends but it was another loss, this time to the Turnbulls.  Sharon produced some good shots as did Neville, but the only time it looked as though we might get in front on the board, down came a drive and on each of the two occasions, Neville was very accurate.

Lunch did us well and we came out and won the first game in the afternoon. But our pleasure was short lived, our opponents from Foxton Beach in the last game who hadn’t won a game  until then, managed to beat us. I let them know that as they were visitors, I felt it was important that they won and would be encouraged to return to our next gala. I’m not sure that they believed me!

So it was a good day, by the end of play, the sun was out and Coral and Fred who has taken on the position of Kitchen Convenor, had afternoon tea ready.

Congratulations to the following teams:

1st : Neil and Lynley Gordon from Palmerston North with 3 wins, 22 ends and 42 points.

2nd: Dave and Ra Walker from Shannon, (now joining our club) with 3 wins, 19 ends and 31 points

3rd Gary and Carole Combes from Foxton Beach with 3 wins, 17 ends and 34 points.
