Centre Triples – Day 2

By the end of the day’s post-section play, the two teams had been found for the Finals playoff tomorrow (Monday) at the Levin Bowling Club, starting at 10.00am.

Local interest was good as a Levin and two Central Levin teams had qualified and all enjoyed some excellent play from the teams.

Keith Galloway, Paul Gardner and Murray Griffin faced a Paraparaumu Team – Rex Holmes, Jim Martin and Chris Lee, which proved too strong for our Levin team but they had done well to get through to this stage of the competition.

Peter Petherick’s Levin Central team won their game against Owen Vincent from Paraparaumu Beach but R Bellow’s team had a tight match, losing against M Vangioni from Waikanae.

In the next round, R Homes won his match against last years winning team from Johnston Park and in the other match Ray Boffa faced Peter Petherick. The last end produced a wonderful shot from Ray. He needed two shots to win, was holding only one, with an opponent’s bowl right beside it. He had two choices, tie the end and play an extra end or try to get a second shot by pushing the opposition’s bowl back and his bowl to remain. The latter was his choice and he played it with precision, the right line and weight, giving his team two points for the win.

The next round saw two clubs involved, each playing another team from their club -Waikanae’s  R Kemp v’s M Vangioni and from Paraparaumu Beach, R Homes and R Boffa. I have heard that Holmes was holding the four he need for the win but Boffa drew the shot to win the game with his last bowl.

The results from these two matches will see M Vangioni playing R Boffa tomorrow to take the title. Sure to be another high standard game.

Some photos taken during this mornings game between C Barrett and Peter Shepherd. Peter’s Waikanae team started slowly but the scoreboard read 16 all on the 16th end showing how tight the game was. It was finally won by Chris Barrett.
