Today’s round of the Horowhenua 5’s was played at Central Levin and our team played the Shannon Club. It was a long time ago that I last played in the competition and was given the job in the first round playing singles while the others played 4’s. My opponent was Lynette from Shannon, the sister of our new club member David Walker who recently won the KCBC Singles. Lynette quickly showed that bowling was a family skill and she adapted to the fast green quickly, drawing with the correct weight most times. We had to play 18 ends and Lynnette won by 4 shots.
At the same time, our 4’s team – Vern Murphy, Margaret MacKay, Don Hutchins and Lodzia Wnek (s), came out with a draw.
Following refreshments, Margaret lead for me in the Pairs and we had a good win 16-3. Our Triples had a close game, entering the last end level, but dropped a single to lose that game.
Perhaps not the best team result overall, but we all enjoyed the afternoon, mixing with the other club teams. We found Central’s Green 2 was very fast and it tok most of us a time to get used to the speed. Players in the KCBC Open Pairs drawn to play there tomorrow will be pleased on the condition of the green.
