I wondered if the Mexted Cup would have been played today. The wind in Levin was strong for much of the day but the news has come through that our team won the cup. Congratulations.
I have just received an email from Ken about the day which gives a clear outline on how the day went:
Good news from Paekakariki today.
Our Four had a very good day. The weather was very nice. Virtually no wind in the lee of the big dunes. Sunny after 10 am. Green played well.
Won first game against Whitby 24 – 5
Had a bye in the second round and had a good 2-4-2 pairs game amongt ourselves.
Won third game against Kapiti 25 – 5
Won final game against Waitarere Beach 9 -8 – tight.
Ended up as only team with four wins and so won the Mexted Cup. It has been going since 1935 and Levin’s name is not on the Cup.
We have always played in it I don’t know but maybe it is a first for the club.
Our team: Ken Hayward (s) Stafford Ball, Murray Griffin, Trevor Turnbull – all played very well nearly all day – I thought Stafford was outstanding
on the day.
