Men’s Junior Pairs

It took a long time to complete the Men’s Junior Pairs today.

The first game started this morning and a close match it turned out to be.

The two teams involved were Bill Cleland (s) and Vern Murphy playing against Murray Griffin (s) and Ian Up, and the target for one of these teams was to win two games.

Game 1started with a 3 to Bill, singles followed then from Murray, and after 9 ends, the score was level  – 8 each. Murray and Ian got stuck there for the next six ends but then moved on, each team taking turns at scoring until it came to the final end with Murray just 2 behind. Pressure on both teams but only a single point to Murray gave the 1st game to Bill and Vern. 18-17.

When club members turned up for their afternoon roll-up, they saw two teams in white obviously playing a match. The score-board read 19-1 to Murray and Ian and it was a surprise to those arriving to hear that they had lost their previous game. With the score at 21-6 against them, Bill and Vern conceded and moved to another rink ready to play a third game to find who could win a second game for the club title.

How things can change.  Bill and Vern quickly got under way and when the rain came later in the afternoon and the score at 19 – 3 against them it was Murray and Ian’s turn to concede.

A full day”s play for these four players and congratulations to the winners of the Men’s Junior Pairs, Bill and Vern.
