First Winter Afternoon Mixed Gala

Brand new for our club, a Mixed afternoon Triples Gala, was played today with a full green making it an auspicious start.

A slight misunderstanding saw a one player team arrive – he thought he had been asked to come as a fill-in player, not a full team. This problem was solved by him playing each draw game with a player from his opposition joining him in a pairs game.  A win was automatically given to the correct team with appropriate ends-won points.)

As it happened, Jack Willis and Jan Dawson who played with me, played in such a game.

We went on with full games in the next two games with our opposition being Dave Walker and Neville Turnbull’s teams. We managed a win in each of these two games and that put us in the running for a place.

The weather was a bit ‘off and on’ during the afternoon, it looking as thought things would come to and end after the first game, but it changed fairly quickly and the three games were all played in full.

It was a midday start to this gala and after the last game, a cup of tea was available for those awaiting the results.

I left soon after and it looked as though it was early evening; cars with headlights on, the rain getting underway and the sky very dark and gloomy.  We hope that our futures Wednesday afternoons will be mush sunnier.

Results:

1st:   Stafford and Marion Ball and Brian Anstis – 3 wins, 17 ends and 27 points

2nd:   Ian Wenham, Jack Willis, Jan Dawson – 3 wins, 15 ends and 31 points

3rd:   Dave Scrivener, Margaret Griffin, May KauKau – 2½ wins, 17 ends and 31 points
