Weather Not Kind to Central Levin

Central Levin had organised a three day tournament and it was a pity that the weather from Friday to Sunday was not the best and in the end, cut down the number of games played.

The event is obviously popular and had teams from far and wide eg Alexandra in the south and Auckland in the north and local teams as well.  Our club had one Fours team – Neville Turnbull, Barry Cross, Keith West and Omeka Feaunati, and Dave Walker played in a composite team.

Friday’s weather was OK and three games were played but Saturday was a bit on and off and Sundays games finally ended up being called off once heavy rain set in. In all, only five of the eight games were played.

I watched some of the play on Friday and Saturday and saw some good play, remembering that the greens weren’t running that fast.

The prize money went to the first 14 teams, with our David Walker in the winning team, skipped by Ray Lovie from the Northern Club.

On paper, Neville’s results don’t look too good with only two wins, but the three losses all were decided on the last bowl!

Omeka, leading for Neville, played wonderful bowls. We all have seen him in action and opposing teams must have wondered what they were up against in their games agains the Levin team.  It seemed that every time I had a look at one of their games, Omeka had a bowl sitting right by the Jack. He makes it look so easy.

Interesting to hear that the local cotula greens were covered with water on Sunday morning around 11.00am but our new Dales green had no puddles anywhere. This, together with the way it is running, shows that the club has made a great investment in the new green.
