Off and On

The Title describes how my computer and I have been since last Friday – off and on, which simply means that we have both been not been ‘running’ at our best.

I have my computer now back up and running and it’s nearly the same for me.

So what has been happening since last doing my Blog.

Last week’s Gala saw Joe and Lodzia Wnek with Marie Anstis leading, being the only team winning all their games, taking out 1st place.

Came Saturday, the Men’s Handicap Singles was played. With a good number of entries, both greens were needed to be used.

I’ve had a look at the cards from Saturday and saw that there were some very close games …. some big losses as well but we wont worry about them.

It shows how things can change when you see that in the first round Bill C went down to Omeka 11-23 but when they met in the Post Section, the scores were much closer, Omeka winning 21-19

Very close also in Round one was the game between Rob and Dave – 20 all and then the final vital end going to Rob.

Similarly, Brian Furness won his game against Roy James, the score prior to the final end being 20 all.

Round 2 didn’t have any close finishes but Round Three, the decisive round for any player who needed one more win, saw a real tussle between Neville Turnbull who needed the win, against Brian Cooper who was not in the same position. 18-19 to Brian, next end 20-19 to Neville, and then it was 21-20 to Brian. So ended a real pressure game.

The qualifiers were: Stafford Ball, Murray Griffin, Omeka Feaunati, Bill Clelland, Shoota Ballinger, Brian Furness,

Dave Walker, Ken Hayward, Fred Adams and Rob Cotter.

The draw for Post section was made with 6 getting a bye, leaving Omeka to play Bill and Shoota to play Murray. This resulted in Shoota and Omeka winning their games. Further Post section games will be played on Saturday 15th October.(this coming Saturday sees the Women playing their Handicap Singles)

Because the RSA club’s new green is not ready, both sections of Rotary were to be played at our club this afternoon but the heavy recent rain made our cotula green too soft so that Section played at Central instead.

On our Dales green, our teams won two of their four games and our away teams did likewise.

Three of our club members in Rotary action today.

Brian Thompson skipping his team

Noel Larsen, a long time member, leading well.

Murray Griffin, though troubled with a sore knee, also leading.
