Only twelve players entered this years competition and after playing the three qualifying rounds, half managed to get through.
One always can guess who they think will get through but one never knows in the game of bowls. As an example, last year’s winner, Dianne Short, lost her first two games, putting her out of the competition.
In contrast, Jan Dawson, a first year player, lost her first game but won her second, against Alice. This meant that they both had to play and win their third game and this they did – Alice beating Dianne and Jan winning her game against Audrey Sciascia.
The six qualifiers were: Jan Dawson to play Margaret MacKay, Christine Ryan to play Alice Spicer and getting the byes were Lodzia Wnek and Joan Hayward.
