Not What Was Wanted

The first Tuesday of the month, time for Central Levin’s monthly men’s gala, but keeping up with what seems common this season, the weather played a major part in the day with us only getting in two games in the morning.

Soon after the first game started, (a gusting Easterly blowing), we could see the sky out to the west getting very dark and guessed that rain would soon arrive.  As it happened, we only got a few drops, noting that the dark clouds had stayed out at sea on their journey to the south.

Off came the jackets, but in no time at all, another threatening sky could be seen approaching but once again, it failed to come over us …. so on with bowls.

Finally, the rain did arrive, just as we were playing the last end of the second game. As soon as the scores were noted, players headed in for lunch and were able to see the greens become quickly puddled.

It certainly wasn’t a hard decision to make, play was off for the day and for most of us, (knowing that we weren’t in for a prize) time to head off home.

Being one of the early leavers, I have no idea who received a prize. All I know for sure was that my team had had a first game draw against a strong team from Palmerston North and lost our second against a team from Waikanae.

The climate and the green were a challenge as well as the opposing players, and it was up to the individuals to demonstrate their skills. How did you do??
