Mixed Single – Day 1

Another opportunity for our players to show their dedication this morning. It was an 8.30 start, it had rained over night and still was gloomy and damp at start time, and soon after starting, another heavy shower arrived.
No worry, the games carried on and by afternoon, the sun was out to warm all.
Two wins to qualify were necessary and by post section play, 9 had qualified; that required one game today but as well, another game started because the players didn’t want an early start in the morning!!
Qualifiers were as follows:
(Hazel Rose, Rex Spicer),  (Rob Cotter, Ken Hayward),  (Omeka Feaunati, Joan Hayward),
(Dianne Short, Neville Turnbull), (Fred Adams – winner of the Hazel and Rex’s game).  Bracketed are the games for tomorrow’s morning start.

The Club’s flag was flying at half mast today for a once member of the club, Bill Strong, who has passed away in Auckland.
Bill joined the club in September 1989 and until he became unwell, was a keen player and a regular at roll-ups, and though he never would be classed as a ‘top bowler’, he was one who would send up the unexpected bowl to take the shot. Always fun to play with.
We who knew him are sad to hear of his passing.
