Annual ‘Haggis Day’ Gala

All rinks used in this years Haggis Day Gala, 16 teams, ten of them from other clubs.
Players were welcomed at the door with a Scottish Taste (it wasn’t water) and checked out to see what teams they would be meeting on the Cotula green in their four games.

Play underway on the Cotula Green

It is always great to see club members who in one way or another, help on such a day and very noticeable on this day, were the kitchen helpers who prepared and had ready for all players, a wonderful lunch. Special thanks
At the end of play, a time for sociability before the Haggis Ceremony took place and again this year, we had the services of John McAllister from the Whitby Bowling Club. We we watched him and his helpers enter the club for all to see and then he did his recitation.

Piper Don Walters enters the clubrooms

This went down well and for many, so did the Haggis. I noted that Jimmy, club member for so many years, was present and made sure there was plenty available.
Piper Don Walters, who has helped us in previous years, lead the the Haggis group into the clubrooms for all to see and then the ceremony was presented to us by John.

The day was also a test of bowling skills and the three top teams turned out to be:
1st Ray Hudson’s trio with 4 wins
2nd – Steve Mishkin’s team from Waikanae with 3 wins and a draw
3rd – Murray Griffin’s team with 3 wins
It was a great day for all, bowling as usual, but above all, a really social day.
