Yesterday saw the end of this year’s Business House Bowls. When I arrived at the usual time, you could see so many of those who had played this year were already gathered, chatting away or testing themselves on the green, indications of how they looked forward to these evenings.
Last week saw the close of the competitions and instead, the final evening would have Corner to Corner and an Accuracy Test for those who wanted to show how clever they had become.
Pay a Dollar and two bowls were received (pay more and receive more) and the competition got away from either of the Northern corners. Players quickly understood that skill was needed; like the game of bowls, you had to have the right green and weight to succeed. If bowls arrived close to the target area, a note was taken to find who would end up as the expert. This resulted in a win for Wayne and Mary. Well done.
Later, the Accuracy test was undertaken, no cost, just accuracy. If a player’s bowl failed to go between the two target bowls, they were out. After round one, those still in had another go, the target bowls got moved so the gap became smaller, and still some managed to aim correctly, until at last, a male and female winner was found. Rachel, a big smile, and Wayne, was the winner again.
The club showed its support to all who had been involved over the weeks by giving them a free meal, ham and beef, salads, potatoes etc. Brian’s catering son-in-law from Palmerston North also was involved and supported us and with the help of club members, the kitchen helpers, we all dined with pleasure.
Teams brought free raffle prizes along which was their way of supporting the club financially.
Convener Brian concluded the evening with his thanks to all who had in one way or another, had supported the club, members and non-members and in return he was thanked for all he had done in organizing the annual event.,
