Monday, the Club in Action

Working Bee

This morning was a really good example of our club in action.
Over the years I have taken an active part in a variety of things at the club (other than bowling) and today was just another example of how clubs work. An email had been sent to members over the weekend to let them know that the greens would be closed on Monday-Tuesday so that indoor painting would be taking place.
It was a sunny morning, only a little snow left on the Tararuas and it looked as though things would go well today. When I arrived, I could see that the ‘painters’ were underway and I understand that there will be a final coat put on after this morning’s effort.
Ken was looking up closely at his work  while at the same time, Ian was checking the wall’s surface. (Has he grown a beard over night??

A glance at the photos I took will show paint going on at all levels (on the walls) and each painter showed they were skilled.

It wasn’t until they stopped for morning tea that two of our lady members came out from the women’s bathroom/toilet area where they had been actively been painting as well. I noted that Margaret, though not on the end of a brush, was updating results from yesterday’s gala, and as well, had been busy in the kitchen area.

Neville, green-supervisor and Tony, green keeper, were outside, no doubt discussing the greens which are continuing to respond to their work over these winter months. We look forward to once again playing on our cotula green which has been great over recent times.
Later in the morning, Chris Wilson and Paul Cavanagh from Bowls NZ  called in for a cup of tea; they had been meeting the council re wanting to revisit the Western Park relocation for all the Levin bowling clubs. I noted Trevor, Jim and Neville joined them; will be interesting hearing about what is/might be going on!!
I will add photos to the Gallery in the website which I have finally been able to get it running again – http://www.levin.bowls.org.nz/Home.html
The month is drawing towards the end, just another to go and then……perhaps summer bowls will start.
