The sun shone throughout the winter’s day and made it easy for us to see how well Rex and Margaret had played their bowls; one presumes that they were like this most of the day and made them the winning pair.
A full green was in action on the Dales green and when the fourth game of eight ends was about to be played, four teams had won all their three games by then.
As it happened, two ‘three wins’ teams had to play each other so one of them at least would be a four winner, but the other two had other opponents to face and it was going to be interesting to see if they got their fourth win.
Some of the teams were close, others had bigger problems, but in the end of play, the three winning places went to:
1st Rex Holmes and Margaret MacKay – 4 wins, 23 ends and 35points.
2nd Fred Adams and Rona Cutler – 4 wins, 21 ends and 43 points
3rd Bill Clelland and Liz Galloway – 4 wins, 20 ends and 40 points.
(Remember, Most wins and then most ends won, decide the places.)
As well as the players taking part, their thanks also go to those who help in many ways to make the day such a success.
