Today saw the beginning of our club’s Summer bowling season. Certainly it was fine but there were indications that it will be a while before we feel the temperature rise. Today we were able to play on the artificial green but we are looking forward to play on our cotula green which is certainly looking ready for the season.
We had a good turnout for opening day and President Helen welcomed all. In her welcome she covered many points; winter activities on both greens, work by helpers inside the club, brightening the whole area, and so on. An interesting report Hazel, a good reminder for all members on what does go on throughout the year.
Of special interest to all was the news that the committee had decided to make special thanks to one of our bowlers. Over many years she has helped in so many areas and as well, proved herself to be a top bowler in the club, So Congratulations go to Coral Mills who from today, has the title of being an Honorary Member.
As first day of “summer”, we did get out to play but someone came up with a new way for loosening up before we really got playing.
Teams were drawn for the roll-up but special instructions were issued ……. to get players loosened up perhaps.
End one; all players were to play their bowls with their other hand ( if a right hander – use your left.
End two; play with your opposite’s bowls.
End three; not sure by then what to play – in our game we all were thoroughly confused.
‘Normal’ play continued on from then until afternoon tea was ready.
Time then for general chatter around the clubrooms and all were looking forward to their play throughout the summer season.
