Each day we have had various activities planned but have often not been sure of how the weather would treat us.
The second round of Pennants was to be played last Tuesday but there was heavy rain overnight and a call soon after 7.00am informed players that the round had been called off. A very wet night and day.
Rotary was on the programme for Wednesday and the sun was out but this time we had to contend with wind, very strong wind from the south. We had two teams playing at RSA and another two at our home club. Our two away teams were to play at Central but because their greens were still soft after earlier rain, the games were moved to the artificial green at RSA.
It certainly was very testing for all teams contending with the wind. My team only scored on only two of the 10 ends in the first game but won all ten in the second!
This weekend saw the Centre Men’s and Women’s two bowl Triples played, 22 entries in each. Fred and Neville had entered their teams and played at the Paraparaumu Beach Club. Our women had three teams playing; Margaret Griffin at our club and Hazel and Alice at Waitarere Beach. Unfortunately none of our teams made it through to Post Section. It was interesting to note that 11 Women’s team were through for Sunday’s play, 6 from the Paraparaumu Beach Club and two from Central. There were 10 men’s qualifiers
Over recent times, much work has been carried out, not only on the greens but also inside the club rooms. Most recently the main building has had a curtain put in and it can be pulled across to halve the room.
By the side door, a small wall has also been erected and entry forms can be filled in for coming events. The old TV has been replaced as well; no doubt other changes have been made but are often not noticed by the casual viewer such as me.
The work has been carried out by many of our club members and we, who are not often involved, appreciate all the work that is done in so many areas around our club. We thank you.
