A Rotary day with two teams playing at the Waitarere Beach Club and another two at our home club.
The weather in Levin was a bit strange with a short period of light rain falling at the start of play. Some of us made sure we were suitably clad for the conditions but in no time at all, it was a fine day again. The wind did become gusty at times but overall we were able to handle the conditions for play on our cotula green.
Jim Bagnall had Alan Glynn and Keith West in his team and I had with me, Terry Davison and Joe Wnek with me. Both our teams performed strongly and we won both our two games.
It was good to see our two leads, both first year players who travel from Otaki to play, do well. Terry does have a problem with his hand but did really well for me today, drawing many of his bowls close to the Jack. Still a bit of skill needed to get the Jack to remain within the boundaries when delivered. Time for us still to smile.
Special thanks to Barbara Selley for our afternoon tea between the two games.
At the end of afternoon’s play, our two teams club teams who had played at the Beach Club, returned after each had had one win and one loss.
Our Selector, Rob Cotter, who chooses the players for each round during the season, spent the afternoon watching the games. Good to see him giving his time and encouragement to the the players.
Our Women’s Championship Open Singles will be played over the coming weekend. Look forward to seeing the draw made tomorrow afternoon.
